Who am I?
My name is Kelly Shadbolt. I support children, as well as adults, who are struggling with anxiety, nerves/panic and those who lack confidence in themselves. I am an Accredited Certified EFT Practitioner, through EFT International. I have previous experience working as a Childminder and also supporting my neurodivergent son through his life and education. My passion is to help people release anxiety, to live their best life, to be more comfortable and confident in themselves. I have personal experience supporting neurodivergent children, with a passion for supporting parents emotionally through the stresses & strains it can bring raising these amazing children and helping to build the confidence to advocate for them.
What is EFT?
EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques. It is also referred to as EFT or just Tapping for short. EFT is a self-applied technique, by tapping on meridian end points, using your own finger, on the upper body and face we can send a signal to the brain to tell it we are safe and comfortable. This turns off the fight/flight/freeze response to allow us to calm down and think more clearly again. This can be particularly good for stress, anxiety, fears and limiting self-beliefs too. When we are feeling anxious or stressed etc, it can be particularly difficult to think straight, tapping can help those feelings to subside. During times where we may lack confidence and have little self-belief, we can shut down and be nervous when trying new things, or even to do things that we once enjoyed. Tapping can help us to release those heavy feelings of overwhelm and allow us to release the burden so that we can enjoy ourselves again.
How can EFT help with students?
EFT can be used in many ways, but my focus here is to help children who are struggling with anxiety and confidence. Maybe they struggle to come into school, or fear tests, maybe they struggle to speak out in class or are uncomfortable in big group settings. While a certain amount of this is often understandable, it can become an issue for some children who are missing out on certain class activities, or are finding it very challenging. Working with children within the school setting can really help, EFT works very well in the moment where the struggles are occurring. Weekly EFT sessions working 1 to 1 can really help me to delve deeper to find the route cause of the issue and use tapping to release them. During these sessions I also teach self tapping, using various discreet tapping points that can be used in the classroom and outside during moments of distress.
I often also include the use of meditation, breathing techniques, music, movement and tips to get a good nights sleep by using EFT tapping just before bed.
